Descend Sky [ 2016 ]

Choreographed by Jessie Young
Sound by Jason Finkelman

Descend Sky began as a study in momentum, weight, and spiral. We arrived at a layered landscape of choreographic scores, literally mapping the pathways of the work on paper. The work emerged as a kind of relentless flow of movement, the performers endlessly tossing, spinning, and spiraling, revealing—through their physical exhaustion—a powerful, burning presence.

The restaging process came from a desire to see what remained and what fell away in the process of revisiting a preexisting work with a new cast, and the second version is in many ways a different piece.
